DESCRIPTION

This floral art print of two peonies tenderly succumbing to the natural progression of their existence comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and is a numbered edition of 25 in sizes 16 x 20” and 18 x 24”. In capturing their unfurling petals I was given pause to consider how this beloved bloom incites much anticipation among garden aficionados. Beneath the earth she patiently waits all winter, hidden below the surface until a time only she knows when will come. As if by magic she grows and blooms at her own pace and from her strong foundation, she prospers. As I thought about how she holds her audience in silent suspense, I reflected on how freeing it must be to focus solely on the present and to be concerned with nothing and nobody but one’s own path to blossoming. Printed on Giclée museum quality paper and unframed so collector’s can choose their own finish, this flower print is an artistic metaphor for the inner peace we find when we surrender to the here and now.

Tenderness. The feeling of touch, the taste of being held, a sweetness that lingers on the tongue. Tenderness is vulnerability in motion, a surrender to rest, to the present, to being. Peonies take their time. Following their own course to blooming. So often, gardeners and farmers think their tubers have failed, and then when they have forgotten their disappointment and expectations, the peonies blossom. In their perfect time, with their expansive, captivating beauty. They do not worry about the other flowers, the seasons, or the way time ticks on. Peonies focus only on being present, for a time rooted in the earth, allowing their foundation to grow deep within the ground. This is a time of solitude, a time of rest and healing. As they grow up and out, they bask in the sunshine, soaking in the nourishment but keeping their unfurling petals tightly woven. Until, one day, something shifts, and they open up—their silken petals breathing in the life around them.

Taking in the way the light ebbs and flows from day to night, catching the wind and riding it with ease. When I created this fine art photo, I allowed myself to feel into all of my inner emotions. These blooms had lent me their wisdom, and I was feeling every ounce of it coursing through my body. I stood one peony up tall, looking forward to the future that lay ahead. The other bloom, wild and open, collapsing into a romantic surrender, a balance of living now and dreaming of all that is to come.

A hollowness takes root when we stay in the past or worry too much about the future. It's as though we are always awaiting something that isn't going to come, rather than being entranced by all that is right in front of our very eyes.

We forget the temporary nature of our bodies, but we are well aware of the fleeting lives of flowers. They are a burst of incredible vibrancy, a moment in time. One that you can easily miss if you are not grounded in the present moment.

Here it is to always seeing the divine that exists all around, to loving now, being now, and choosing to be in the only promised piece of time we have—the surrender to presence.
