This fine art floral print of the short-lived lilac is like a window to my past. As I photographed her dainty blooms I was once more a child filled with sweet innocence and wonder. While capturing her fleeting beauty I pondered how we often discover a doorway to former days in the arousal of the senses. Whether it’s the texture of a familiar fabric or a long forgotten flavor that rekindles our childhood, it’s in these moments we can palpably touch and taste our memories. In the unambiguous scent of the lilac I return to a recollection that nudges me to cherish every chapter of life. A numbered edition of 75 available in 8 x 10 inches, 16 x 20 inches, and 18 x 24 inches, this floral art print is a wistful trip down memory lane. Printed on Giclée museum quality paper and delivered unframed with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, let Nostalgia be your reminder to enjoy the present for it too will become a memory.

I remember what it was to twirl, my little legs floating beneath me as the world spun around. The uninhibited laughter, my sister's hand in mine, my mother’s voice like a melody, and the sweet perfume of lilacs. My childhood smelled like crushed bilberries, freshly baked Gogoși with their citrus spun sugary goodness, sun dried linens, and lilacs. Roses, milky almonds, and green leaves. The first whiff is citrusy and crisp; a deeper inhale reveals its unforgettable heady floral notes that fill a room with memories. Their rapturous aroma is the embodiment of childhood wonderment, those rare years that move too fast, where love is found in every tiny flicker of light, when the world is new, bright and possibility lurks around every dusty corner.
The tiny, butterfly petals remind me of the whisper soft kisses on my forehead from my grandfather, when I breathe in her fragrance it is as if I am back in that time. A portal to a parallel world. Lilacs are fleeting, their season a brief moment in time. As soon as they appear they are gone, and this is why I think they hold an aroma that lingers, one gentle whiff and it becomes ingrained in memory. We are not so different from lilacs, after all, each of us wanting to leave just a little piece of what we were in our blooming. To be held, to feel loved, to love. Simple, beautiful moments that will be treasured long after they have passed.
